Sample Post: How Kids Design Their First Playable Game

Sample content for integration testing. From paper sketch to playable prototype, the path a camper takes in one week.

Game Design
Campers sketching game levels around a table

This is sample content created to test a Sanity integration. Game design starts on paper, long before anyone touches a keyboard.

Start with one verb

Jump. Throw. Stack. A single verb gives the whole design a spine, and every level becomes a new question about that one action.

If the first 10 seconds are not fun, more levels will not fix it.

Playtest early and often

Campers trade controllers every afternoon. Watching someone else fail at your level teaches more than any checklist.

James Colestock is the founder and camp director of WizCamp, where he helps kids and teens turn curiosity about technology into real, working projects. Over the past two decades he has taught thousands of students to code, build games, and design with AI, always starting from the same idea: learning sticks when it feels like play. When he isn't leading camps, he's prototyping new curriculum, tinkering with side projects, or talking shop with the instructors who make each session run.
